The economy is on the rise, and America is once again feeling confident in our nation. With the renewed confidence, spending is also on the rise. Supplies of all kinds of goods are dwindling down, and suppliers are restocking them. How does goods of all types get to the suppliers? You guessed it, the over the road truck and driver. One indication of a strong economy is how many tractor – trailers are moving freight up and down the roads. As of lately, that number is sharply on the rise. The tractor that pulls that load has to be in top operating condition at all times. Enter the diesel technician.

Diesel engine repair is more than a person and a tool box. These techs. are highly trained, and extremely knowledgeable in all the different systems found on a class 8 semi truck. Long gone are the days of a mechanic walking out to a truck with a hand tray of tools. Modern diesel engine repair technicians most often start a proper diagnosis with a lap top computer. Like a skilled surgeon in their field, the problem is quickly identified, and a repair is made correctly the first time. Experience plays a major role in this repair process, and a technician with years of experience is a good person to be friends with. This type of experience is highly sought after in the world of truck repair. Competition between businesses that employ these people is, not surprisingly, quite fierce. Because of the knowledge base a diesel engine repair technician is equipped with, they can usually write their own ticket as where in the country they wish to work.

Along with the knowledge a diesel technician has, their home away from home is the tool box they own. Not your standard tool box found in most home garages, this type of tool box is usually three to four times larger. With all the specialty tools required to diagnose problems, storage for these expensive items is very important. While the wage that a diesel engine repair technician receives is well above the minimum wage requirements, keep in mind that the tools used are also purchased by the technician. The investment made by a highly trained diesel engine repair technician will easily run into six figures. A good rule of thumb at a repair facility is that if one has to borrow a tool from someone else more than twice, it should be bought and put into personal inventory.

The down side to being a diesel engine repair technician is that it is hard on a body. Everything on a class 8 truck is big and heavy. Brake drums alone weigh in at close to one hundred pounds. Ask a gear man the weight of a 15.5 inch clutch. Then ask them where it goes. Lifting one of these monsters in a confined space certainly builds character, to say the least. Cylinder heads, pistons, crankshafts, intake and exhaust manifolds. All are on the larger scale and need to be wrestled around on a daily basis by the diesel engine repair technician. These people have brawn to go along with their brains.

Next time you see a tractor – trailer moving needed freight down the road for our nation, think of all the diesel engine repair technicians that keep them rolling. Everyone of these people in the trucking industry are viable partners, and we need all of them.

Treating your car to both regular and major tune ups will certainly improve its performance, prolong the life of its engine and dramatically increase fuel efficiency. With today’s constantly increasing fuel prices, it pays to keep your engine in top condition to minimize gas consumption.

Major engine tune ups can be pretty expensive when done by the dealer. It will be more practical to get to know a mechanic who owns a garage to ensure you won’t get ripped off. Or you can perform a do it yourself tune up and maintenance of your car’s engine. Here are some basic tips.

Ignition and electrical systems

Inspect your car battery levels four times a year at the very least, at each season change. Top off low levels with distilled water. Remove corrosion from cable clamps and terminals by using a wire brush and a little baking soda. This practice will extend battery life.

Spark plugs should be replaced every 35,000 miles, or if they’re platinum, replacements are required every 65,000 miles. Check the spark plug for cracks and corrosion and change them if damaged. Get high quality cables for added durability and reliable performance.

Get a new distributor cap with each major tune up, if the cap is not attached permanently to the spark plug cables. Also replace the rotor of your distributor, if it has one, as some new model cars don’t have either a distributor cap or a rotor.

If your car is a 1978 model or older, replace the contact points and condenser. Newer car models have electronic ignitions and don’t require condensers or contact points. Contact points should be aligned or replaced two times a year.

Oil and fuel systems

Unless your car has hydraulic valves, adjustment of valve covers is a necessity. While you’re at it, also replace the valve cover gasket. If done properly, this will prevent oil from leaking out on top of the car engine.

Inspect the timing belt and readjust or replace it if needed. Electronic ignition-equipped cars don’t often come with timing belts, while some do, so you have to be certain.

Inspect the fan belt and other belts. If they are cracked, frazzled or worn out, consider replacing them at once.

If your car has a fuel injector, you don’t need to clean it regularly. Clean it only if it gets clogged and use only clean fuel bought at a gas station. The fuel filter needs to be changed every 35,000 miles.

The air filter has to be replaced every 15,000 miles, or if it is already covered with dirt. Keeping your air filter clean ensures a more efficient fuel burn, thus minimizing gas consumption.

Brakes and clutch

If your car has a manual transmission, the clutch will require certain adjustments. Newer model cars are now equipped with adjustable clutch. Consult you manufacturer’s manual to be certain.

Oil, brake and transmission fluids should have their levels checked every week, or before and after long drives. Have an oil change and oil filter replacement every 3,000 miles as having clean engine oil prolongs the engine’s life.

You can do your own tune ups to increase fuel efficiency, gain better engine performance and offer a smoother ride. This is not an assurance that you won’t run into any car troubles, but do it yourself car tune ups will save you a lot of money in maintenance and repairs.

It is a dream of moist people to own particular classic car that has a brilliant design and artistry for a long time. However, only few people remember to give the car a sense of touch to ensure it is well maintained. This is because of lack of experience and tips on how to maintain cars. Many car owners depend on target groups to maintain their brilliant and admirable brand identity. Developers and designers continue generating new models that usually represent changing eras as well as the vision of a high tech future without veering to the old models.

However, many details and tips are easy to adhere to and aid in maintaining a car to its standards. At times, the gas gauge in the car may not be working properly; this may be due to a faulty sending unit meant for the fuel tank. To avoid complete breakdown, it should be replaced immediately it is spoilt. The replacement of the fuel tank sending unit is easy since its location is accessible. Towing of the car that involves drawing or pulling behind a line, bar, chain or any other coupling is also very vital. This prevents cars from experiencing engine problems like failing to start.

The engine is the most essential part of the car and for it to perform effectively it must be tuned and have its spark plugs changed. This improves fuel economy performance. In case there is one misfiring spark plug; it can reduce fuel economy up to 5% according to the EPA. Just as engines require adequate attention, brakes also call for extra attention. They should be well maintained to avoid unwanted drag. The warning light reminding one of “Checking the engine” as well as “Servicing the engine” should not be ignored. This is because it may result to poor performance of fuel economy and involve expensive repairs.

Car owners should be very careful when replacing worn tires from their cars; they should use the best quality, style and size of tires recommended by manufacturers. This saves a lot of money since the tires are durable hence no need of changing them now and then. Stumpy rolling resistance of tire replacement should be highly considered to enhance performance of fuel economy. If tires are kept inflated according to the pressure recommended by manufacturer, it can enhance fuel economy up to 4%. Tires that are under inflated need more fill ups to roll.

A clean ride raises the owner’s standard since it always looks brilliant when one is riding it no matter how new or old it is. However, a key to a flourishing car washing is done from top to the bottom hence one should wash one side at a go. One should look for a shady spot when washing and away from those trees with dropping leaves and dripping sap. It is very essential to store a car in a sealed and dust-free room with air that is dehumidified. In case one cannot afford to keep it in such as they prevent harsh winter weather. Overall car maintenance is vital to perk up its functioning and look.
