Whilst modern gearboxes are in general very reliable, problems can occur and when they do, it can be costly to fix. That is why it is advisable to visit a gearbox and clutch specialist at the first instance of gearbox problems, as they are best equipped to deal with any issues you might have. This applies for manual as well as automatic transmissions, as most modern cars are controlled by computers, and require specialist attention. The longer you leave any problems, the more damage that will be done and the more expensive it will be to fix.

Whilst some problems that occur with you automatic transmission are extremely complex and have underlying causes, there are common gearbox problems that many vehicle owners encounter. These include a harsh or delayed experience when the gears are shifting, and that the gears are not staying in gear. Other problems include a loud noise emanating from the gearbox or a constant buzzing. There may also be clunking and clanging noises coming from underneath your car as the transmission automatically changes gear.
