Let’s talk about the unsuspecting brake repair. For the most part many people can do their brake repairs at home, if they are familiar with common repair jobs on the car. In a lot of cases individuals that are unfamiliar with the workings of cars are not comfortable working on their vehicles would prefer to take it to the experts.
Women for the most part would take their cars to brake shops to have the brakes repaired if they have a fear or concern that the brakes are not working properly. Unfortunately there are a lot of rip off shops when it comes to brake replacement and repairs. In fact it is such a popular rip off scam that there are many shops that are built around just doing the rip offs. Anyhow, once you get your car to the shop if it’s not a reputable shop they could very well tell you that the car needs a complete overhaul in regards to the brakes. They are going to tell you that you’ve been driving around with a very unsafe vehicle and this is going to start to produce a fear in you. This could be a typical scare tactic of the repair rip off artist to get you to concede to doing or letting them do whatever they want in respect to your break repair.
This is where the scam really starts to take effect because now they’ll tell you that the calipers need fixing which will all be strange to you and what they are telling you is that they want to change the caliper seals. The seals are not expensive to buy but the labor costs are steep. The problem is that they don’t really need replacing at all as most calipers on vehicles are of very high quality because of the safety issues surrounding them. So it’s not too likely that the seals would be gone. In the event there is a rare case, where this does happen then there is a need for the calipers to be changed.
First of all, you will be able to tell if this is actual or you can get someone that is a little bit more experience with cars to check it for you is that when you hit the brakes hard your car will pull to one side or the other. The harder you hit the brake the harder it’s going to pull. So let’s assume that you do need a caliper service what you want to do is have the calipers replaced and the old calipers given to you. This way you can be pretty well be assured that the work was done unless of course they give you calipers that they took off someone else’s vehicle.
For the most part though you want to try and protect yourself as much as possible when it comes to a brake repair. Ideally, try and use a shop that has been used by friends or family that is reputable and they have had good experiences with. Brakes are not something that you want to play around with and you need to know that they’ve been fixed correctly.
